YANGON — A young Burmese woman stands outside the Yangon Oktoberfest in a traditional German dirndl dress — the work of a local tailor who copied the outfit from a picture. She is there to sample the imported wheat-based „weiss“ beer featured at the third Myanmar hosting of this famous Bavarian event. A rival Oktoberfest at a leading downtown hotel drew a packed house but this two-day event, with the imprimatur of the German embassy and sponsorship by other entities, dominated one of Yangon’s largest hotels, the Inya Lake Hotel on Oct. 9 and 10, 2015.
